A gift card that fails to redeem is usually not broken. More often the cause is simple: one mistyped character, an Apple Account country that differs from the card’s country, or a card that turns out to have been redeemed already.

1. Mistyped code
An App Store gift card code is 16 characters long and starts with the letter X. Some letters and digits look alike, such as B and 8, O and 0, or S and 5.
Fix: choose to enter the code manually, then type it again slowly. Make sure you are typing the code that starts with X, not the card’s serial number.
2. Apple Account country differs from the card’s country
A gift card can only be redeemed in the country or region where it was bought. An Indonesian iTunes Gift Card won’t go into a US-region Apple Account, and a US card won’t go into an Indonesian account.
Fix: check your account country. If it is still another region, follow how to change your Apple Account country to Indonesia, or redeem the card on another account that is already set to Indonesia.
3. Card already redeemed
A message like “this code has already been redeemed” can appear if the card has been used, including by you on another device.
Fix: sign out of the App Store on all your devices, then sign back in so the balance refreshes. Then check the balance as described in how to check your Apple Account balance. The balance may already be there.
4. Card not activated by the seller
A physical card bought in a shop has to be activated by the cashier at checkout. If it wasn’t activated, the code can’t be used.
Fix: contact the shop where you bought the card and sort it out with them.
5. Not an App Store card
Older Apple Store Gift Cards, the grey, white, silver, or gold ones, can’t be redeemed in the App Store or the iTunes Store.
Fix: check which kind of card you have. That kind is for products at the Apple Store, not for Apple Account balance.
6. Scratched or damaged code
On a physical card, the code can get scratched off along with the label.
Fix: contact Apple Support. Have photos of the front and back of the card, the purchase receipt, and the card’s serial number ready. The serial number is different from the code; it is on the back of the card and starts with GCA, PBH, or EPY.
If you bought from jeruk.id
An iTunes Gift Card from jeruk.id is sent to the email you enter in the order form and is only for Apple Accounts set to the Indonesia region. If you run into a problem:
- Look for the gift card email, including in your spam or promotions folder.
- Make sure you open that email on a device that is signed in to an Indonesia-region Apple Account.

Beware of gift card scams
Apple gift cards can only be used to buy Apple products and services. Never pay bills, taxes, fines, or a “prize shipping fee” with a gift card, and never give the card code to someone you don’t know. jeruk.id support will also never ask for your password or an OTP code.

Questions about failed redemptions
Can a failed code become void?
A failed attempt doesn’t use up the code. Check the causes one by one, and don’t retry many times in a short period before contacting the seller or Apple.
Can the balance be moved if it went into the wrong account?
No. Balance that has been added can’t be moved to another account. That’s why you should check which account is signed in before redeeming the card.
How long until the balance shows up after a successful redemption?
It usually appears under your name in the App Store right away. If not, sign out of the App Store and sign back in.
